Fundraising for Water for South Sudan

Taking action at Ada Harris Elementary

Help us reach our goal of $15,000!

The 5th graders at Ada Harris Elementary participated in a novel study by reading the book, A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park. It is a true story about one of the lost boys in South Sudan. It is about a boy named Salva Dut whose village gets destroyed during a civil war. Reading about the extreme hardships Salva faced; hunger, death, loneliness, fear, and survival, we also learned that millions of people have no access to clean fresh water.  We all became passionate about having the desire to help. We learned the impact of how people suffer from this. At a young age, Salva Dut was fortunate to come to America where he was able to begin a program called, "Water for South Sudan". This program raises money to help build wells and provide a basic right to all humans, fresh clean water. Through this program, our school signed up for the Iron Giraffe Challenge. Many schools participate in this and we wanted to be part of this challenge to help make a difference.

Together we will raise more money for Water For South Sudan than we ever could alone! Our goal is to raise $15,000 to help WFSS. This is enough to drill one well and provide more clean water to people in need.
